Tools for Growth

Art has been a constant thread throughout my life, a way for me to navigate the ups and downs of human existence. I started making art as a child, using a pen and paper as my go-to tools for self-expression survival. In those early days shapes and patterns filled my school notebooks and covered church bulletins- boredom was painful and doodling was the antidote. I grew to love the permanence of ink on paper, and how you just have to go with it. Over time I got into making bigger art pieces, and other people started to like it and tell me. I have been drawing with black ink for quite a long time now.

In my twenties I made an art book called “The Creative Instinct” and self-published and distributed it around Canada. It was so fun to see different coloured versions! This was in the years before the big colouring book craze, which happened when I had already transitioned to working in health care. I’ve been a nurse for about 7 years now, and work in mental health and addictions. I’m also mom to a 6 year old son! We do a lot of art together now and I’m thinking of starting a page in this site for his stuff- it’s really so amazing.

Over time, my art has evolved from simple doodles to layered, complex and often very colourful designs that reflect both the organic forms found in nature and the deep connections within ourselves and each other. The idea of “there’s always a lot more going on than you know” is really important to me and I think this comes through in my art as well! Lately I’ve been enjoying making designs based on historical symbols from different cultural traditions and time periods- starting with the symbol and going from there.

For sale currently I have originals, prints, some colouring books and screenprinted bags. I want to move into prints on clothing and other fabric-based products and am interested in connecting with makers who would like to incorporate my designs.
